Not everyone is up to date with the massive new technology driven approach that ING has embarked on in the past years. Driving technology to the core of ING's culture, business and interactions with customers is a massive transformation. Ink Strategy was invited to the drawing board to help design interventions that drive the change forward. 

Brief

Creating a compelling change story

Within the strategic transformation a number of different workstreams were identified within ING Wholesale banking. New teams were formed to work on the different workstreams but as time went by they started to work in silos. The teams were missing one holistic compelling change story that connected the individual work streams. 

 

Ink Strategy was briefed with the challenge to engage all of the different workstreams in a process to create a compelling change story that everyone could share. Besides the co-creation process we were asked to develop material to support strategic communication. 

Process

In order to create alignment and engagement in one story we initially sat down with each of the eight workstreams to create visual stories of the different silos by finding their own metaphor to tell the story. 

Following the grassroots approach of designing visual maps of the individual workstreams we embarked on a process to design a high level change story for all of the workstreams together.  We ran a number of workshops to gather all of the different perspectives and construct a bigger picture. 

To get the buy-in from the whole team we organised and facilitated storytelling workshops with different stakeholders in order to reach the tipping point. 

Result

A compelling animation and interactive presentation.

As soon as the core team signed off on the compelling visual story, Ink Strategy developed a one-page document that could be used so all employees involved would start to use the same vocabulary when talking about the change journey they were on. 
 

Ink Strategy developed a short animation that summarised the story to share with a broader audience and also created an online presentation that is still being used to communicate the scope to new people in the project.
